Security Protection Officer Team Competition 2012

Welcome to the 2012 Security Protection Officer Team Competition (SPOTC) website. This year’s event will be held April 22–26, 2012, at the Savannah River Site – WSI Advanced Tactical Training Academy in Aiken, South Carolina.

Registration and General Information

SPOTC registration is from February 1 until March 22, 2012. Please register online by clicking on the Team Management tab in the menu at left. For questions about registration or web access accounts, contact Kathy Davis at 505-845-5170, ext. 608; or email kdavis@ntc.doe.gov.

This tactical, physical, and skills-oriented firearms competition is open to teams of security protection officers within the Department of Energy. All DOE sites are encouraged to participate. As in the past, the SPOTC competition will challenge the teams’ skill levels with the use of both handgun and rifle.

This year’s competition will allow participation of three-man teams in handgun-only events, as well as the traditional five-man teams competing in handgun and rifle events. The goals are to foster interaction and camaraderie among a wider range of protective forces across the complex, reflect the diversity of DOE, and showcase the abilities of protection officers at all levels.

Military and law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom may also attend.

This year's competition will be limited to 20 teams, with DOE teams receiving priority for registration.

Team Composition

Each DOE team competing in SPOTC must have the following composition of team members:

Five-Man Team

Three-Man Team

The “New Competitor” requirement is still in effect for all sites. For large sites (≥400 SPOs), at least three of the team members must be new competitors. For medium sites (<400 SPOs), at least two of the team members must be new competitors. For three-man teams, at least one of the team members must be a new competitor.

“New competitor” is defined as someone who has not been part of a SPOTC team within the last three years (2009–2011). The new competitors may occupy any team position for which they are qualified.

Medical Requirements

Every SPOTC competitor must submit to the NTC a hard-copy form, signed and dated by a licensed medical physician, allowing that competitor to participate in the competition. For DOE competitors, the physician must have performed the medical/physical-fitness evaluation no earlier than 30 days before the start of SPOTC.

The required form is the SPOTC Medical Form. DOE and non-DOE medical forms will be available on this Web site.

Note for DOE competitors: Every DOE competitor's medical/physical-fitness evaluation form must be signed and dated by the site medical director.

As soon as the form is completed, submit PDF files or faxed copies of it to the registration coordinator. In addition, all competitors must ensure that the original medical evaluation paperwork reaches the registration coordinator during team registration on April 22, 2012. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE WITHOUT TIMELY SUBMISSION OF THIS PAPERWORK.
